The Township of Nipigon received $33,750 from the province's Northern Communities Investment Readiness program to investigate the possibility of converting a former railroad right-of-way into a recreational trail.
The former Canadian National (CN) line, once known as the Kinghorn subdivision, once connected Thunder Bay with Nipigon. That line was abandoned by CN because freight volume declined.
Nipigon is partnering with the City of Thunder Bay as well as the neighbouring townships of Dorion, Red Rock and Shuniah on this project.
