Ontario Power Generation has put the finishing touches on the new 5.5-megawatt Sandy Falls Generating Station, which is now in service roughly 10 kilometres northwest of Timmins.

Located on the Mattagami River, the station is expected to produce more than 30 million kilowatt-hours of energy every year, or enough to power 3,000 homes.

This station is the first plant to be completed as part of Ontario Power Generation's $300-million Upper Mattagami and Hound Chute Project, which also includes the Waiwaitin, Lower Sturgeon, and Hound Chute sites.

Construction employed 500 people at peak, and was overseen by Kiewit Alarie Partnership, which achieved a million hours without a lost-time incident.
