The 54-year-old Hrusovksy has held a number of senior executive roles in his 29-year steel industry career, lastly as CEO of Severstal Columbus, a high-tech plate mill catering to the Mississippi auto industry.

“We are very pleased to attract an individual with Mr. Hrusovsky's skills to serve as the company's CEO,” said Essar Steel Business Group CEO Malay Mukherjee in a May 2 statement. Mukherjee said Hrusovsky brings a well-rounded experience in all aspects of steel making including research, quality, product development, engineering, capital projects, sales and profit centre management.

The appointment and effective date are subject to pending regulatory approval.

He replaces Armando Plastino who announced his retirement in November after a two-year run as CEO.
