KD Quality Pellets of New Liskeard has accepted a wood supply offer that will result in a new manufacturing plant and 16 new jobs.

The wood offer is for 90,000 cubic metres per year of merchantable and unmerchantable timber, and the plant is scheduled to be operational by late 2012. The wood will be used to produce wood pellets.

"I am pleased that the wood supply competition is allowing KD Quality Pellets to create economic development and job opportunities in the Timiskaming region,” Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP David Ramsay said in a news release. “This new company is providing an innovative use for Ontario's wood while maximizing the benefits of our natural resources."

To date, 26 wood supply offers have been accepted with a worth totalling 3,470,700 cubic metres per year of wood and 1,565 new and existing jobs.

"Our government has acted to put Ontario's wood to work,” Northern Development Minister Michael Gravelle said in the release. “With the enthusiastic participation of the many companies that have accepted wood supply offers to date, we are doing exactly that."

The province received 115 submissions under the Provincial Wood Supply Competitive Process.
