New jail one step closer for North Bay

North Bay's new jail is one step closer to reality with the awarding of the environmental assessment contract to Senes Consultants of Richmond Hill in partnership with Northland Engineering of North Bay.

North Bay's new jail is one step closer to reality with the awarding of the environmental assessment contract to Senes Consultants of Richmond Hill in partnership with Northland Engineering of North Bay. Work will begin immediately and should take four to six months to complete. Construction is expected to begin in late summer or early fall. The expansion of the Near North Correctional Complex is expected to bring hundreds of new jobs to the community as well as create about 230 construction jobs. The project includes a 192-bed male maximum security unit and renovations at the North Bay Psychiatric Hospital delivering a 50-bed secure treatment unit. Completion has been set for spring 2003.
