Detour Gold has selected Calgary's ATCO Structures and Logistics to build its mining camp in northeastern Ontario.

ATCO provides modular buildings and other support operations for global mining clients. The 1,000-person camp at Detour Lake will include dormitories, kitchen and dining services, even its own ambulance and fire truck.

The company has also signed a memorandum of understanding with Moose Cree member-owned businesses for commercial opportunities. The project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2011.

In a Nov. 23 release, Sheldon Rachuk, Detour Gold's director of procurement, contracts and logistics, said ATCO's track record in working in mining camps around the world “made it the best choice for the Detour Lake project.”

Just eight months ago, ATCO set up an office in Timmins, 180 kilometres southwest of the Detour Lake, for sales, support and service for the local mining companies.
