The Sudbury-based Music and Film in Motion (MFM) is hitting the road, bringing a pair of workshops to Timmins on Feb. 3 as part of its InSight and Sound Seminar Series.

To be held at the Days Inn, the first workshop explores how being a musician in a Northern Ontario town leaves one wondering how they can break out of their region and start making some real noise. Called “Into the Great Wide Open,” it will feature a discussion on what it really takes to break out, grab the attention of the pros and make a living. The session will be instructed by Marc Meriläinen, a successful recording artist who has released four albums and performed at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver; and Mike Large, MFM's director of outreach services.

The second workshop, “From Script to Screen,” will help filmmakers find out from industry professionals whether the long road between the conception of an idea to its translation onto screen is one worth taking, and how it is navigated.

The session will be instructed by Victor Sandrasagra, Natalino Lattanzio and Jason Jallet. Sandrasagra has been making films for over 20 years, while Jallet is currently MFM's director of programming. Lattanzio's most recent work as a producer/cinematographer includes the award-winning horror Bikini Girls on Ice (2009) starring Suzi Lorraine and the highly anticipated (ET Canada) Long Gone Day (2010) starring Tim Rozon.

Music and Film in Motion is a non-profit organization whose mandate is to foster and promote the development of the music and film industries in Northern Ontario.
