McGuinty government gives Northern industries a break on power

Some Northern Ontario industries are receiving energy rebates through the Ontario government's Northern Industrial Electricity Rate program. Sault Ste. Marie's Flakeboard Company, Essar Steel Algoma and St.

Some Northern Ontario industries are receiving energy rebates through the Ontario government's Northern Industrial Electricity Rate program.

Sault Ste. Marie's Flakeboard Company, Essar Steel Algoma and St. Marys Paper will receive the rebates of two cents per kilowatt hour. Essar received a retroactive rebate of $11.5 million, Flakeboard received $1.9 million, while St. Marys received $1.5 million.

In Thunder Bay, AbitibiBowater were approved for more than $7.5 million based on the power it consumed in its fiscal year.

On the North Shore of Lake Superior, Barrick Gold's Williams mine near Marathon received more than $4 million to help manage their electricity costs.
