Meldrum Bay, a community on the west end of Manitoulin Island, has received $394,000 in federal funding to complete the final phase of its waterfront development project.
The funding will be used to upgrade the marina’s docks, enhance fuel and waste disposal services for boaters, and complete infrastructure improvements to the existing wharf.
“Today’s announcement demonstrates that the government of Canada is committed to helping small Northern Ontario communities, such as Meldrum Bay, succeed,” said Wendy Van Every, president of the Dawson Citizens Improvement Association, in a news release.
“By investing in this important waterfront project, FedNor is helping to create a long-term economic driver for the Manitoulin region that will enhance local tourism, create and maintain jobs, and strengthen the regional economy.”
Funding comes through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that strengthen community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
Manitoulin Island is located in the northern area of Georgian Bay.
