Major improvements for Fort Frances causeway

Two companies have been awarded contracts to make improvements to the Noden Causeway on Highway 11 near Fort Frances.

Two companies have been awarded contracts to make improvements to the Noden Causeway on Highway 11 near Fort Frances.

Upgrades include improving the causeway structure above and below water, as well as installing new concrete panels on the driving surface.

George Armstrong Co. Ltd. of Fort Frances has been awarded a $13.4-million contract.

Toronto Zenith Contracting has been awarded the other $8.5-million contract.

Construction is underway with the completion expected in 2014.

The causeway was opened in the 1960s and is a major Trans-Canada Highway link over Rainy Lake.

The Ministry of Northern Developmentand Mines said the project will create more than 200 jobs.
