Lakehead University is touting its role as an economic, social and cultural driver in northwestern Ontario.
In its 2010-2011 Report to the Community, the university claims its operating expenses last year left a $323.7 million economic imprint on Thunder Bay.
A new website highlights the university's accomplishments and features success stories and video profiles of students, faculty, alumni and staff.
These include the MEAGlow project, a leading edge semiconductor research laboratory, that has created jobs for engineers and physicists.
The website outlines the university's financial statements, strategic direction, honours and awards, and performance indicators on enrolment, graduation rate and employment rate.
“Much of Lakehead University's research is focused on Northern issues and is often driven by community needs,” said Lakehead president Brian Stevenson in a Nov. 18 statement.
Of the 7,733 students enrolled at the Thunder Bay campus last year, 60 per cent came from outside the city.
