Four unions represented by the Associated Railway Unions of Algoma Central have ratified a new labour contract.

Approximately 70 mechanical, engineering and clerical employees are covered by the four-year deal, which is retroactive to Feb. 1, 2010. The agreement provides union members general wage and benefit increases consistent with other agreements reached this year.

The unions are the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference-Maintenance of Way Division, Canadian Auto Workers, International Association of Machinists, and United Steelworkers.

CN acquired the Algoma Central Railway, which runs north from Sault Ste. Marie 300 miles to Hearst, as part of its purchase of Wisconsin Central Transportation Corp. in 2001.
