A Kenora landmark could be the site of a microbrewery start-up.
The City of Kenora has accepted a proposal from Lake of the Woods Brewing Company to re-develop the historical No. 1 Fire Station into a pub and brewing operation.
The city said the concept will bring a "new dimension" to Kenora's core commercial district which has undergone a $25-million downtown revitalization in recent years.
The project concept also revives the name of an historic brewing company dating back to the early 1900's.
“We wanted to make sure that the successful project had the same vision for the future of Kenora and the downtown that we did,” said Mayor Len Compton in a Nov. 29 statement.
The property will be transferred after a 90-day due diligence period, with the brewing company starting operations in late 2011.
The old hall is being vacated when the fire department moves into new digs on Barsky's Hill.
