A pair of industrial parks in Sudbury is getting funding from the province, following a recommendation from the city that the areas be given priority for upgrades.
Industrial areas at Fielding Rd. and the juncture of Lasalle Blvd. and Elisabella St. have been granted a combined $1 million from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. to upgrade infrastructure.
At the Fielding property, the funding will cover a municipal assessment, and the upgrade and installation of sewers, lift stations and a forcemain/watermain. At the Lasalle/Elisabella property, sewer lines and the watermain will be replaced.
The funding comes following the June release of a report in which the City of Greater Sudbury identified eight industrial areas in need of upgrades totalling close to $65 million.
The Fielding and Lasalle/Elisabella areas were deemed priorities and the most costly endeavours, with estimated costs of $41 million and $7.56, respectively.
City council elected to move forward with the priority areas, undertaking an environmental assessment at the Fielding property at an estimated cost of $500,000, and a detailed design the Lasalle/Elisabella area at an estimated cost of $375,000.
