Heliene investment to create 16 jobs

A $1-million investment in Heliene Canada from the provincial government is expected to create an additional 16 jobs at the Sault Ste. Marie solar panel manufacturing plant.

A $1-million investment in Heliene Canada from the provincial government is expected to create an additional 16 jobs at the Sault Ste. Marie solar panel manufacturing plant.

The funding announcement comes a year after the plant's groundbreaking, an initiative into which the province invested $2.5 million, including a $1.87-million loan and a $625,000 grant to get the venture off the ground.

Coming from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp.'s Enterprise North Job Creation Program, the $1 million will be used to expand the plant by 12,000 square feet and install two additional soldering machines and a silicon application unit.

Heliene now employs 72 people.
