Hearst has added a wind turbine to the construction of a new green technologies centre.

The Hearst Economic Development Corporation (EDC) announced Jan. 7 that a small wind mill has been installed to provide power to its Green Business and Technologies Centre, now under construction.

Provided by UrWind of Montreal, the wind mill is the first of its kind in Ontario and will generate 2 kilowatt hours of electricity to the centre.

The turbines, known as a UrWind O2, can harness wind despite its changing directions. The Hearst EDC said the noise produced is comparable to that by a dish waher, which is no greater than 45 decibels at less than 25 metres distance from the wind mill.
