The Town of Hearst is working to attract clean technology companies to the area to promote local economic development.
The Hearst and Area Economic Development Corporation is developing a strategic plan to encourage clean technology companies to invest and relocate to the Hearst Regional Green Technology Centre.
The centre is expected to open by late September 2011 and 31 full-time jobs will be created to attract tourism and investment to the community.
It will be a focal point for research, demonstration and education on sustainable forestry practices and technologies.
The Ontario government is investing $6,679 in this initiative through its Northern Communities Investment Readiness program. So far, the province has invested $2.3 million to construct this tech centre.
