The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency has started a federal environmental assessment for Treasury Metals' Goliath gold project in northwestern Ontario.

In a Jan. 18 release, the agency is inviting public comment on the environmental impact of this proposed mine, 20 kilometres east of Dryden.

Treasury Metals Limited is proposing the development, construction, operation and closure of an open-pit and underground gold mine and associated infrastructure.

Plans call for an on-site mill that would process 2,500 tonnes of ore per day to service a mine operational life of 10 to 12 years. The ore would be processed into a final dore bar that would be shipped off-site for further refining and upgrading.

Treasury also has an exploration drill program underway to delineate its C Zone within the proposed open pit to add ounces its indicated resource estimate.

Written comments must be submitted to the CEAA by Feb. 17.
