Kenora-Rainy River NDP MPP Howard Hampton has taken Sudbury Liberal MPP Rick Bartolucci to task for his support of the Harmonized Sales Tax, passed Dec. 9 by the provincial legislature.
"Mr. Bartolucci supported a new tax on gas and home heating that will make life more expensive for Sudbury area families struggling through a recession," said the former leader of the provincial NDP party, in a release.
The HST move still requires federal support, and the NDP are rounding up support for federal representatives to vote for with constituents and not their party. This includes the creation of a website, www.unfairtaxgrab.com.
However, federal Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff said all votes on the HST will be "whipped," meaning Liberal MPs will be required to vote along party lines or face consequences from party leadership.
