Highways in Northern Ontario will again be scenes of major construction activity this summer.

The Ontario government announced April 12 of its record $773 million investment into their Northern Highways Program for the 2010-11 year, an increase of 20 per cent from last year.

In their news release, the government pointed out upcoming four-lane construction along the heavily travelled Highway 11-17 corridor.

Starting in 2011, three kilometres of the highway approaching the Nipigon River Bridge will be widened as will 12 kilometres between Red Rock Road No. 9 and Still Water Creek near Nipigon. In 2012, 13 kilometres of Highway 11-17 east of Thunder Bay will be expanded to complete a 33-kilometre stretch of four-lane highway.
