An estimated 300 delegates converge on Timmins next week for a major regional conference on shaping the North's future.
The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) is staging their annual conference with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing at the McIntyre Community Centre in Schumacher. The conference them is, “A Golden Past … A Brighter Future.”
FONOM is a political and economic action group made up of 110 communities from northeastern Ontario.
Keynote speaker David Beurle opens the conference on Wednesday with a talk about rural revitalization.
Sessions on Thursday will promote immigration, funding healthcare, economic growth and municipal-Aboriginal partnerships. A Thursday night banquet will honour the 2011 recipient of the FONOM Executive Award, Timmins city councillor Michael Doody.
FONOM gets down to passing resolutions at its annual meeting with Northern Development, Mines and Forestry Minister Michael Gravelle ending the conference with a speech.
