The City of Thunder Bay reports the first of three phases of its $122 million Marina Park waterfront revitalization project has been “substantially completed.”

Oct. 31 was the deadline date that had to be met under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund (ISF) contract dates.

Construction at Prince Arthur's Landing will continue over the next two years.

In an Oct. 31 release, the city said the infrastructure funding of $29.3 million has sped up the first phase completion date by two years than originally planned.

Among the smaller projects listed as finished are the Water Garden Pavilion, the Baggage Building Arts Centre, a sewage pump station, a dock retrofit, a new entrance and roadwork, park signage, landscaping, fencing and some placement of locally-produced shoreline artwork and furnishings.

There remains continued construction for Market Square and related buildings including a hotel, two condominiums and renovations to the former CN passenger station.

The City of Thunder Bay has invested $22.1 million in the project with $36.5 million coming from other levels of government, and $65 million coming from the private sector. The project has created more than 200 construction jobs annually and is expected to create permanent employment for 145.
