A Sudbury film production has received $1 million from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. (NOHFC) to boost the Northern film industry.

The production of The Truth, which is filming this weekend in Sudbury, will create 150 local jobs. The film producers have hired people living in the Sudbury area as extras, crew and production staff.

“By investing in exciting projects such as this film, the McGuinty government continues to help diversify the Northern economy, build careers in the North for our young people, and create local jobs in Sudbury,” Northern Development Minister Rick Bartolucci said in a news release.

The Truth features Hollywood actors Forest Whittaker, Eva Longoria and Andy Garcia, and is directed by Damian Lee.

Funds for the grant are being provided through the Emerging Technology Program. The NOHFC estimates film and television production contributes close to $2 billion annually to the Ontario economy, supporting more than 23,000 jobs.
