A group of Highway 11 communities received FedNor funding for a new area marketing strategy.

FedNor Minister Tony Clement delivered $134,250 for a tourism and economic opportunities initiative in the Central Almaguin region.

The money for the Township of Strong is earmarked for a marketing strategy for tourism, to identify economic opportunities and to attract investment. The villages of Sundridge and South River, and the Townships of Strong and Machar are all participating.

"The funding...will enhance tourism and help create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity throughout the area," said Clement in a Dec. 16 news release.

Strong Township Mayor Christine Ellis said the communities want to stimulate growth and put out the "open for business" sign.

"By working with neighbouring municipalities to identify and capitalize on regional opportunities, we are helping to create jobs and promote a strong business sector."
