A motion brought forward by Constance Lake First Nation to halt mineral exploration near their northwestern Ontario community will be heard in Ontario Superior Court, May 11.

The hearing in Toronto was originally scheduled for April 29.

Constance Lake is seeking an injunction to stop exploration by Thunder Bay's Zenyatta Ventures on the band's traditional territory.

The judge adjourned the matter to allow the company and the First Nation to resolve the situation through consultation.

The company said drilling will continue at its Albany project, a copper-nickel-PGM play north of Constance Lake.

In a May 2 release, Zenyatta said it has been in dialogue with the First Nation to reach a Memorandum of Understanding and felt it had reached a deal in mid-February.

The company said it remains “committed to ongoing good faith dialogue” with the community in respecting its rights and interests.
