Espanola will move forward with the second phase of its industrial park, following an announcement of more than $300,000 in FedNor funding.
FedNor Minister Tony Clement made the announcement of $371,500 during a stop in the North Shore mill town while on a three-day tour of Northern Ontario.
“Today's announcement will provide greater opportunities for attracting small business owners and entrepreneurs to Espanola, and that will lead to creating and maintaining jobs in the town and surrounding area,” Clement said in a news release.
Plans are underway to expand the industrial park with another 15 acres of property, or five lots, serviced with hydro, natural gas, water, sewer and stormwater services, along with a paved access road coming into the park.
In addition to the FedNor funding, the town has applied to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. and will contribute its own funds to the project. The aim is to have shovel-ready land available for prospective clients.
Espanola Mayor Mike Lehoux said phase two of the industrial park expansion project is part of the town's “ongoing efforts to diversify and expand our business community.”
The funding was provided through FedNor's Northern Ontario Development Program, which aims to boost economic development, business growth and innovation.
