Elliot Lake gets interns for economic recovery

The province has announced funding for the Elliot Lake Chamber of Commerce to hire a pair of interns to help with ongoing revitalization efforts in the city.

The province has announced funding for the Elliot Lake Chamber of Commerce to hire a pair of interns to help with ongoing revitalization efforts in the city.

According to a news release, a business support intern will co-ordinate and deliver re-establishment services to the business community, while a communications intern will participate on the various recovery committees and help update the public on recovery process.

Funding for the intern positions comes from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp.’s Youth Internship and Co-op Program.

In its press release, the government did not attach a dollar value to the internships.

The province announced earlier this month that it would be providing more than $2 million in funds to help the city recover from a June 23 incident in which a portion of the roof of the Algo Centre Mall crashed down through two floors, killing two women and injuring 22.
