East Algoma municipalities investigate green energy potential

Municipalities in East Algoma are getting a financial helping hand from the province to better prepare themselves for the development of green energy projects.

Municipalities in East Algoma are getting a financial helping hand from the province to better prepare themselves for the development of green energy projects.

Through the Northern Communities Investment Readiness program, the Ontario government has provided $17,212 to the Blind River Development Corporation, the Municipality of Huron Shores, and the Township of North Shore.

This money will be used to prepare a competitive analysis to identify opportunities, including what crops local farmers can produce to create clean fuel. It will also help outline the area's advantages for fuel crop growth and biomass pellet production.

The funding will also serve to develop a value proposition to market the benefits of locating a pellet plant production business in the area to potential investors.

This may encourage the development of a local biomass pellet mill and fuel crop growers cooperative.
