The provincial government is contributing $40 million to a new long-term care home in Sault Ste. Marie.
Sault MPP David Orazietti made the announcement on May 14.
The 256-bed facility will be located on six acres at Sault College at the east end of Northern Avenue. It is part of a partnership with the college and Extendicare, a long-term care provider.
The home will provide real world experience for Sault College students in program areas of personal support worker, nursing, fitness, culinary and salon services.
Construction begins next spring. Preliminary drawings were unveiled at a news conference.
Extendicare is also building a long-term care facility in Timmins.
