Design conference to be held April 14 in Sudbury

Graphic design professionals from around the world will collaborate via teleconference in Sudbury this week for the third annual Lateral Thinkers design conference.

Graphic design professionals from around the world will collaborate via teleconference in Sudbury this week for the third annual Lateral Thinkers design conference.

The April 14-15 event is being billed as an “eco-friendly and thought-provoking design conferece,” which has satellite venues in Vancouver, Toronto, and Ottawa.

The event aims to facilitate dialogue on the emerging influences in today’s design world.

Sponsored by Registered Graphic Designers (RGD) of Ontario, which represents graphic design professionals from across the province, the conference will feature guest speakers Paula Scher of the New York-based consultantcy firm Pentagram; Adrian Shaughnessy of ShaughnessyWorks, a London design studio; Vince Frost of Frost Design, a creative studio in Sydney, Australia; Frank Chimero, a freelance designer and professor in Portland, Oregon; and Paddy Harrington, the executive creative director for Bruce Mau Design in Toronto.

The event will open with the SHAPE exhibit, a collection of designs put on by the RGD and graduating students of Cambrian College's design program.

The evening exhibition will take place this Thursday, April 14, between 6 pm and 8 pm in the eDome at Cambrian's Barrydowne campus.

It is the eighth annual exhibit and the third time the college has hosted the opening gala for the conference.
