The Ontario Construction Secretariat released its 2010 survey of 1,000 contractors, April 14.

Many companies acknowledge 2009 was a rough year with nearly half of firms reporting less business last year compared to a record-breaking year in 2008.

About half of contractors surveyed indicated government infrastructure spending had no impact on their business last year, however a large majority of those survey (63 per cent) recognize the value of the stimulus package and want the stimulus deadline pushed beyond March 31, 2011 when all construction projects must be 'substantially complete.'

Contractors are largely optimistic for 2010 and its expected to translate into more jobs in the institutional, commercial and industrial construction sector as three-in-ten firms expect to hire people.
