Thunder Bay's Confederation College is expanding their network of six regional campuses by two with new sites coming onstream in Wawa and Red Lake.

Starting in February, both campuses will offer full-time program offerings in office administration, construction techniques and mining techniques.

In a Dec. 20 statement, Don Bernosky, Confederation's executive director of innovation and skills development, said both communities made a “very strong case” for the need for education and training delivery” based on local demand.

Wawa mayor Linda Nowicki said Confederation has a solid track record in delivering distance education.

“We were eager to partner with them to establish a campus” with a new training facility on Maple Street, said Nowicki.

“We are confident that the Wawa campus will be another of their successes.”

Red Lake mayor Phil Vinet called the announcement a “great day” for his community in providing educational opportunities for residents.

Confederation president Patricia Lang said the college's new strategic plan is a clear indication of their commitment to the region.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Red Lake and Wawa to our campus community and look forward to the first students entering the doors in February.”
