College, university renew articulation agreements in Sudbury

Cambrian College and Laurentian University in Sudbury have signed a series of articulation agreements that will allow students to fast-track their education in specific areas of study.

Cambrian College and Laurentian University in Sudbury have signed a series of articulation agreements that will allow students to fast-track their education in specific areas of study.

An overarching agreement has been signed that guides the relationship between the two institutions, with additional agreements signed for the areas of communication studies, fine arts, and labour studies.

Through the labour studies agreement, the newest for the schools, graduates of Cambrian's human resources management graduate certificate program will receive up to 12 university credits towards a bachelor of arts degree with a labour studies specialization.

Cambrian president Sylvia Barnard said in a news release that the partnership forges “transfer pathways,” providing students with practical and theoretical education in a timely and cost-effective manner.

“It is a partnership that enriches the educational landscape in the North by providing the very best educational opportunities possible to a diverse student population that includes recent high school graduates and those who are upgrading their educational credentials to advance in their careers,” she said.

Laurentian president Dominic Giroux said combining the offerings of the two schools provides greater learning options for students.

“Our long-standing partnership allows students to build on their individual foundations and advance their educational goals,” he said in the release.
