A new automotive service certificate program has been approved by Canadore College's board of governors.
The motive power fundamentals has been designed to meet a specific industry need for skilled apprentices and workers in the automotive industry. The program will be delivered concurrently with level 1 of the automotive service technician apprenticeship program. Students will complete the program in 36 weeks by studying in the program four days a week and carrying out the apprenticeship requirements one day a week.
“The labour market is faced with a looming skills shortage and we recognize the need to develop programming to meet this multi-faceted need,” said George Burton, president of Canadore College. “By pairing the apprenticeship model with traditional classroom teachings, both our graduates and employers will benefit greatly.”
The college hopes to receive funding approval from the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to deliver the certificate next fall.
