Kirkland Lake Gold and Northern College congratulated 12 underground hard-rock mining graduates in early February.
The mining company and college joined forces to provide a 12-week underground hard rock miner common core program to address the shortage of skilled mine workers, particularly production miners.
Students were trained in a working-mine setting where they received instructions from professionals and expert miners, said Dave Gorman, Kirkland Lake campus manager, in a statement.
The next course begins April 4. Potential students will go through a screening interview and testing.
