Canadian National Railway is acquiring more than 2,200 freight cars to support its growing volume of traffic.

Canadian National Railway is acquiring more than 2,200 freight cars to support its growing volume of traffic.

“CN's rolling stock acquisition strategy is responding to evolving market conditions and is intended to ensure reliable, productable supply chains for our customers,” said Jean-Jacques Ruest, chief marketing officer, in a Sept. 4 news release.

Among its rolling stock order includes 1,300 container cars, 588 covered hoppers for grain, 317 multi-level cars for vehicles, 300 gondolas for coal, 232 ore cars for pelletized iron ore produced in Minnesota, and 200 box cars.

Also on the fleet acquisition list is 600 60-foot double-door box cars for forest products and metals traffic.
