Five administrative staff and three faculty members from Yangzhou Vocational College of Environment and Resources, Northern College’s second joint venture partner college in China, will be visiting the College’s Timmins and Kirkland Lake campuses from November 15 to 30.
The joint venture, created in 2010, now has 63 learners in Yangzhou City (China) studying Northern College curriculum in English in two diploma programs – environmental technician, water and wastewater systems operation, and construction engineering technician (building management).
Northern College and Yangzhou Vocational College of Environment and Resources staff will discuss ways to further strengthen their partnership and explore collaborative teaching models. In addition, the visit will help Northern College prepare to receive Chinese students who wish to complete their graduate year at either the Timmins or Kirkland Lake campuses next September.
As part of the visit, Chinese faculty will also participate in advanced teacher training at the Kirkland Lake Campus to better familiarize themselves with Canadian teaching methodologies while observing classroom instruction and participating in various labs.
This visit follows one made recently to the Porcupine Campus by the president of Taizhou (China) Teacher’s College and four senior administrative staff. Taizhou Teacher’s College and Northern College also operate a joint venture whereby 31 Chinese students are currently attending Northern’s early childhood education program.
