Miners in Sudbury have made a contribution of more than $60,000 to the Northern Cancer Foundation following a recent hockey tournament.

Miners for Cancer has made a contribution of $60,540, which was raised at the annual Allan Epps Memorial Hockey Challenge at the end of January.

“This was a really great way to kick off our 2013 fundraising year, and we will keep on fundraising for cancer research and programs as long as cancer keeps affecting our community,” group president Wayne Tonelli said in a news release.

Founded in 1996, Miners for Cancer raises funds through hockey and golf tournaments held throughout the year. The most recent contribution brings the group’s fundraising total to more than $700,000.

Money raised goes to the Northern Cancer Foundation, which supports cancer research and programming in Northern Ontario.
