It is not business as usual as mines go deeper.
This was the message Charles Graham, CAMIRO's managing director, said to mining suppliers at a Jan. 17 workshop in Sudbury.
“We tried to expose some of the work from the Deep Mining Research Consortium (DMRC) to the supply and service community in Sudbury....As we go deeper, it is not business as usual, so the service and supply sector needs to understand the problems we're going to encounter in order to modify their product line to best serve the industry.”
CAMIRO, the Canadian Mining Industry Research Organization, is a not-for-profit organization run by industry to manage mining research. It initiates and manages applied collaborative research to improve the technology in exploration, mining and metallurgical processing.
The information session presented various research studies about the deep mining environment, which are ongoing. The workshop will also be presented to suppliers in North Bay, Timmins and Thunder Bay as an attempt to engage the service and supply sector.
