The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) has recognized a Cambrian College teacher for his contributions to training and education.

Brent Eckert, a member of the college's board of governors, was bestowed the association's Outstanding Educator Award.

Eckert, who has been teaching at the college since 1986, is known for his innovative teaching approach and his ability to bring real-life experiences into the classroom. A former student nominated Eckert for the award, and his nomination was supported by colleagues, current students, and members of the community.

In the nomination package, Eckert is described as an “outstanding teacher who ensures that his students put in a 100 per cent effort and who makes himself available to students at all hours of the day.”

Eckert is additionally touted as a strong motivator, who regularly promotes civil engineering technology careers to youth, and a teacher who encourages students to participate in community events and to achieve success both in their studies and in their careers.

In 2002, he received the President’s Award for Excellence from Cambrian College.

Eckert was presented with the Outstanding Educator Award, his second, at a Toronto ceremony.
