Cambrian College's Mobile Trades Training Trailer is living up to its name, hitting the road for Northern College's Kirkland Lake campus as part of a new partnership between the two post-secondary institutions.
The unit will be on campus through to April 30 for the pre-apprenticeship heavy equipment diesel technician program, as sponsored by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. It's also destined to be used by participants of the Matachewan Aboriginal Access to Training for Mining Jobs Strategy.
The partnership was officially launched on April 15 at Northern College's Kirkland Lake campus, in a joint announcement from Northern College president Fred Gibbons and Cambrian College president Sylvia Barnard.
The mobile unit was first unveiled by Cambrian on Nov. 12, 2009, described as a way to bring the classroom environment to those who may find it difficult to travel to Sudbury's campus.
A $2-million donation from Vale Inco was provided for the design, development and tooling of the unit.
