Brigus Gold Corp. is well on its way toward commerical production from its underground oeprations at its Black Fox Mine about 75 kilometres east of Timmins.
It recently completed the construction of the ventilation and service raise, which includes a secondary egress manway, states a Feb. 23 news release. Associated underground services are experiencing final connection and commissioning. Once commissioned, the old infrastructure will be removed targeted for completion by March 15, 2011. At that time, ore mining and production will recommence in the open pit and existing stockpiles processed through its 2,000 tonne per day (tpd) Black Fox Mill.
The construction of a new portal and ramp access is expected to be completed by March 24, 2011. Production output from the underground will begin at 250 tpd by March 15th and ramp up to 800 tpd in the second quarter of 2011 toward an output goal of 1,100 tpd by the fourth quarter of this year.
The company has been recruiting an underground workforce since the new year and has hired 41 miners. It expects to be fully staffed for the underground operations by mid- 2011.
