Seven months after one of its employees was killed following the collapse of a shopping mall roof, Collège Boréal opened a new Employment Options Emploi centre in downtown Elliot Lake.
Lucie Aylwin worked as an employment consultant for the college at its location in the Algo Centre Mall. When part of the mall’s roof collapsed, Aylwin and Doloris Perizzolo were killed by falling rubble.
The services of the Employment Options Emploi centre resumed less than a week after the tragedy, but the centre has now been relocated to a more permanent location in the downtown.
In June, the college additionally set up the Lucie-Aylwin Fund to financially support a student from Elliot Lake who wishes to study at Collège Boréal.
The centre offers employment services such as resume writing and letters of motivation, job-worker matching, internships and support for employment retention. Personnel also provide customized support to persons with an interest in other programs, such as the Second Career program, apprenticeships or academic upgrading.
Among Collège Boréal’s 42 centres located in 28 cities across Ontario, 30 are offering employment services through the Employment Ontario network.
