Collège Boréal in Sudbury is the recipient of a $150,000 donation from L’Alliance des caisses populaires de l’Ontario limitée (Alliance of Ontario Caisses Populaires). The money will go into the school’s Leading us to Prosperity capital campaign, which is used for student bursaries and new facilities.

With the donation, the school has raised $3.7 million of its $5-million objective.

"This generous donation from L’Alliance des caisses populaires de l’Ontario substantially increases the student bursary fund while supporting the funding of new facilities that we are placing at our students' disposal," said Boréal president Denis Hubert-Dutrisac in a news release.

Alliance president Philippe Boissonneault said the organization aims to support initiatives designed to help young people learn in French close to where they live.

"L’Alliance and its member caisses share values similar to those of Collège Boréal by stressing the worth of each individual and maintaining them at the core of our operations,” he said in the release. “Our organizations contribute to the development of Northern Ontario, Collège Boréal on the educational front and the alliance on the financial front. These are business partnerships that will ensure the growth and sustainability of our respective communities and networks.”

The Collège Boréal Foundation has provided more than 2,000 bursaries to students of the college; for 2011-2012, this represents close to $1.4 million. The foundation's endowment fund is the highest of all colleges per student and exceeds $10.7 million.
