Biotech centre benefits from PUC donation in Sault

A classroom at Sault Ste. Marie's Biosciences Technology & Convergence Centre will be named for the PUC Distribution Inc., after the Public Utilities Commission donated $100,000 to the Essential Elements campaign at Algoma University.

A classroom at Sault Ste. Marie's Biosciences Technology & Convergence Centre will be named for the PUC Distribution Inc., after the Public Utilities Commission donated $100,000 to the Essential Elements campaign at Algoma University.

The 40-seat classroom is located on the third level of the new facility, located on Algoma U's campus.

The fundraising campaign seeks to raise $6 million towards key components at the university, including scholarships and bursaries to ensure access for all Algoma University students; research facilities and activities centred in the Biosciences and Technology Convergence Centre; and support for fine arts and music education, centred in the new Fine Arts and Education Centre.

In a news release, PUC chair Larry Guerriero noted that the commission has supported the university in the past with $40,000 over the years, making support for the current campaign a logical step.

“For as long as they have been in existence, PUC Inc. and its employees have been active participants in many community initiatives and have also been generous corporate supporters of numerous local charities and not-for-profit groups,” he said.
