BESTECH donates to defibrillator program

Sudbury-based mining service company BESTECH has donated funds to put a defibrillator in an area high school.

Sudbury-based mining service company BESTECH has donated funds to put a defibrillator in an area high school.

The ACT High School CPR and Defibrillator Program is a nationwide initiative aiming to establish CPR as a mandatory program in high schools across Canada, and the organization is currently working with Sudbury-area high schools to implement defibrillator training.

The $3,500 donation from BESTECH will cover the cost of training mannequins, teacher training, materials, and a defibrillator for one Sudbury high school.

BESTECH is challenging other mining industry companies to participate in the initiative.

“Research indicates that more lives are saved from cardiac arrest due to proper execution of early CPR and defibrillation,” Marc Boudreau, BESTECH president and CEO, said in a news release. “Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cardiac arrest in one form or another, and the opportunity to facilitate training in order to save lives in this situation is invaluable.”

ACT director Sandra Clarke said the organization is striving to have funding in place for Sudbury schools by Nov. 30.
