Construction work has begun at Apollo Gold Corporation's Black Fox Mine, 75 kilometres east of Timmins, to prepare for initial underground mining of ore in the third quarter of 2010.

The operating open pit mine is now seeing work by Cementation Inc., the underground development and ventilation raise bore contractor, which has moved crews and equipment to the property.

The engineering and electrical design work have already been completed, as have the concrete foundations for surface facilities and the ventilation raise bore drill pad.

A number of pieces of mobile mining equipment have been ordered and slated for delivery in the third quarter of 2010, including three jumbo drills, three scoop trams, two 50-tonne capacity haul trucks and one 40-tonne capacity haul truck.

Underground production rates are slated to reach 750 tonnes per day by the end of 2010.
