Algoma U to host agri-food symposium

An agri-food symposium being held at Algoma University this fall will aim to create opportunities for collaboration between farmers in Northern Ontario and researchers in the agricultural sector. The symposium will be hosted by the Sault Ste.

An agri-food symposium being held at Algoma University this fall will aim to create opportunities for collaboration between farmers in Northern Ontario and researchers in the agricultural sector.

The symposium will be hosted by the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre and NORDIK Institute.

Sponsored by the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and the University of Guelph, the Agriculture and Agri-Food Symposium will be held in Sault Ste. Marie Nov. 4-5 and will feature a series of workshops for local farmers and researchers.

Among the guest speakers are Ron Bonnett, president of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture and a local beef farmer; Dr. Tarlok Sahota of the Thunder Bay Agricultural Research Station; Clara Lauziere of the Northeast Superior Community Forest; Katie Filion of the Penokean Hills Farms; and Mark Leahy of the Ontario Indian Agricultural Association.

Panel discussions will be moderated by representatives Algoma University's Rural Agri-Innovation Network (RAIN).
