North Bay didn't land aircraft manufacturer Dornier Seaplane for Jack Garland Airport last year, but the province has delivered $2 million to grow its aerospace and business industrial park.
Nipissing MPP Monique Smith made the funding announcement June 28 to assist the city in extending municipal water, sewer, lighting, utilities, roads and telecommunications in preparing 24 industrial lots for development.
The money is coming through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund.
A Ministry of Northern Development, Mines and Forestry press release said the funds will create 44 new jobs.
The airside and groundside lots lots, of about five acres each, will be marketed to local and outside business to relocate and expand at the airport.
As well, an added $50,000 is being kicked in to develop engineering designs and complete a draft plan of the business park subdivision identifying service requirements.
“This grant will assist us in extending municipal services and critical infrastructure to our new Airport Business Park,” said North Bay Mayor Al McDonald in a statement. “With the creation of this (park), we will have the potential to develop and build our aerospace industry, and create jobs.”
