Cambrian College's mining engineering technician program has renewed its national accreditation from the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB) until June 30, 2014. The program is one of two in Canada to hold the distinction.

Accreditation involves periodic review and random audits, and ensures that programs meet industry criteria and that graduates are job-ready, according to the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists.

“Cambrian College helped develop the system of national accreditation for mining programs and since we first attained accreditation in 2004, our graduates have been recognized to practise across the country, and around the world,” said president Syliva Barnard in a news release. “This latest milestone is due to the commitment and skills of our professors and the partnership that we have within industry that help us to ensure that our program continues to be current and relevant.”

Cambrian graduates are prepared to work in a variety of roles in large and small mines, both on- and off-site, in government agencies, and in the supply industry, according to the release.
